This is the very short version of my tome on Digital Pyro
Photography. Use the links above (and below) to see more extensive
explanations.
- Location, location location. Where you go to experience the
show might not be the best place to go to take pictures.
- Use a camera that can go into full manual mode. Turn off all
the goodies that you just spent money to get.
- Use a tripod. This is mandatory. Get the beefiest one you
can find.
- Use a remote shutter release. If you touch the camera, you
will shake it.
- Take off the filters to reduce ghosts and flares.
- Charge the batteries, make sure there's room on the memory
card, yadda yadda yadda.
- f11, ISO100, bulb mode. These are my settings, seems to work
very well.
- Set up the camera with the first shells, then watch the
skies without using the camera. Listen for the thump to get the
timing of the shells.
- Don't forget to watch the show!!!
