WWB-18 Night 3
Home Up WWB 18 Day Time Events WWB 18 - Night 2 WWB-18 Night 3 WWB-18 Night 4 WWB-18 Night 4 (cont)

I wasn't able to get to WWB until the 2nd night - hence this starting with "Night 2". The wind was blowing, and anything on the infield blew towards me. (Kept getting smoke and debris all over me. Cool!) Click on a thumbnail for a full-sized image. Copyright notice at bottom of page.

Again, I really wasn't happy with this night of photography as well. Maybe it was the wind? I don't know. Although there was a beautiful evening sky, not many shells were launched. Maybe we were all waiting for A.M. Pyro's Public Display? Not sure.

As a note to budding Pyro Photographers, notice that all of these pictures are in "landscape" mode. I did this on purpose for two reasons: 1) Because this is available for anybody's personal use, I see these a LOT as screen savers and desktop backgrounds. It needs to be in landscape to fit without too much black around it. 2) The wind was still blowing, so this gave me the greatest latitude to capture the images. (Some of the demos kind of ran one into another. If you can recognize the shells as part of a demo, let me know.)

Class C

The sky on the third night was rather nice, and shooting on the Class C line started right away.

Class C

Soon enough, the Class B started up.

Class C

The Class C items may not be as big as Class B, but it's kinda nice to be CLOSE to the pyro!

Michelle Sykes

Michelle wow'd the crowd with some fire dancing.

There was a person video taping in my way - was interesting.

Every now and then, you can see Michelle's arm or hand.

I just love the patterns the flames make.

"Bee" Cakes

These cakes were demo'd with "bee"s in them.

They go up and take a 90' turn in an unknown direction.

Usually in the direction of the crowd!

Wolverine West

WW did a fantastic demonstration of some of their products.

The colors were VERY good!

Here's what it looks like when the wind is blowing RIGHT AT YOU!

A.M. Pyro

When A.M. Pyro started up, you could instantly see the difference in the colors.

A.M. Pyro

These were double-ring red in blue shells.

Looks like "bee" cakes were the order of the day

A.M. Pyro

The direction/wind speed was a real problem.

A.M. Pyro

At this point, the show had to be shut down, as we had sparks landing on/around the tent used for our fireworks vendors!

While we waited for the fire department to show up (wet down the tent and stand by), someone set off a large pinwheel.

A very nice effect!

The thing was very large.

A.M. Pyro

After the Lake Havasu City fire department was in place, the show restarted.

A.M. Pyro

Some of these shells had very nice inserts.

A.M. Pyro

A.M. Pyro

The smoke direction was still an issue, but the wind speed dropped way down during the delay.

A.M. Pyro

This was just pretty.

A.M. Pyro

I didn't see the white spike effect until I saw the picture. Very unusual - very nice!

A.M. Pyro

Great colors, wonderfull combos

A.M. Pyro

When's the last time you've seen aqua-marine blue shells? Fantastic color! Very unusual.

A.M. Pyro

If you were here watching, you would have heard all the pyros say "Hey - look at the blue! Wow!"

A.M. Pyro

You could always tell the great shells on the way up by the "falling leaves" - sputter of color on the way up.

A.M. Pyro

Here you can see the falling leaves effect - this shell really WOW'd the audience!

A.M. Pyro

Great symetry, wonderfull color combos - these shells rocked.

A.M. Pyro

At this point, the show became HUGE. It litterally filled up your field of view with pyro.

Bees, more bees, and puffs of Dragon's Eggs. Schweet!

Aaron was filling the sky with pyro.

A.M. Pyro

It completely filled your vision.

And then the fan racks at the end - Jeeeeeez! This was one sweet show.

El Diablo

If you saw the WPA Newsletter 17-3, you would have seen an article by Jack Scholl on El Diablo.

El Diablo

It is a jet engine from a trainer reconfigured to belch flame. Here with a load of Titanium in the mix.

El Diablo

El Diablo

The green flame came from adding copper sulfate to methyl alcohol and injecting the mix in the after burner.

El Diablo

I reset the camera to try and freeze the flame to really see the increadible green that was on display.

A great finish to the night!
